Which mode should I choose?

Editable text reads the text inside the PDF and rebuilds it as Word paragraphs. Larger text is turned into headings and bold text keeps its weight, so you can edit, copy and reformat freely. This is ideal for resumes, letters, assignments and reports that were typed and saved as PDF.

Exact layout places a high-resolution picture of each page into the Word file. Nothing moves, so it is the right choice for scanned documents, certificates and forms, but the text in the pictures cannot be edited directly. You can still type over or around it in Word.

Your files stay on your device

Most online converters upload your file to a server, process it there and send it back. That is slow on mobile data and means a copy of your document sits on somebody else's computer, at least for a while. This tool works differently: the code runs inside your browser, so the file is read and processed on your own phone or laptop and is never uploaded. That makes it a good fit for bank statements, ID scans, offer letters and anything else you would rather keep private.

Tips for the best result

If the editable output comes out empty, the PDF is probably a scan (a photo of paper) with no text layer. Use Exact layout instead. Complex magazine layouts with many columns may need a little tidying after conversion, which is true of every PDF to Word converter, including paid ones.
